My name is Ekkuli, and I am a teller of truths.
I have been every sex, shifting as certainly as the light with the waxing and the waning of the day:
male at birth, Turning female at first puberty and neuter at the last. I have sipped of every cup and the gods gave me the gift of tales and laughter, of outrage and insight.

We can Turn any sex, but ours is not to choose... and the society we have built to protect us from our frailties as we travel through the diversity of our natures has become stifling and cruel.

My stories tear at the foundations of all we hold too close. I live to speak the unspeakable.

I am one of the Jokka.
Come and hear my tale.

The Jokka are aliens who came dancing to me with their stories on their tongues. So far, Strange Horizons has bought three stories from me about them and Oceans of the Mind a fourth.

Read the first, "Money for Sorrow, Made Joy", which concerns Ekanoi.

Read the second, "Freedom, Spiced and Drunk" , which concerns Kediil. This story made the Tiptree Award's Secondary List and was recommended for a Nebula.

A third story, "Unspeakable," was Strange Horizons's feature story for November, 2002. It won a Reader's Choice Award for 2002, and was a finalist in the short story category for the 2003 Spectrum Awards. "Unspeakable" was also chosen for inclusion in the Best of Strange Horizons 2003 anthology.

"We Defy Old Stars," another story about Kediil the renegade anadi, is now available in the spring 2004 issue of Oceans of the Mind.
